The JBDI is a week long introduction to speech & debate provided by some of the best urban debate instructors in the country. Spending a week with BAUDL will rival any other week long institute. Our instructors are top flight! We focus our institute on advocacy and critical thinking skills. The JBDI is open to all Bay Area middle & high school students, and students of all debate skill levels are welcome to attend. The institute is FREE to all students who attend a BAUDL partner school and for all low-income, Bay Area families. Out of network students who do not qualify for a tuition waiver pay a very low institute fee of $300 for the week, which includes instruction, supplies, meals, and a debate tournament.

If you want to build the power of your voice, join BAUDL at the JBDI!

We have gathered together an amazing staff for the institute, including some recently graduated debate stars and top college debaters from across the counry to teach what debate is all about. Ask anyone in the BAUDL and they will tell you straight up: debate is fun. Speaking your mind in a competitive forum where people have to listen to what you say is an amazing feeling. Debate helps you build confidence and use your words to express yourself as you impress friends, parents, teachers, and more.

Debate gets you to college and beyond
At the end of BAUDL Camp, students will know how to:
No matter what you are interested in - business, law, education, politics, even music or sports, you will need to be able to speak your mind with clarity and power. Debate is a competitive team sport, just like football or basketball, except that it is the ultimate training for college and careers.

Thousands of students across America have earned scholarships to college because of debate. Our graduation rate is nearly 100% and our seniors go to college at rates far higher than the rest of the students at their schools - but it's not because they sit quietly in class. BAUDL students succeed because they learn how to use their voice as a meaningful, powerful tool.
