Work with school districts to get debate teams setup at schools with underserved populations
Provide training to a teacher at each of our schools to serve as a debate coach
Offer weekly instructional sessions for debaters of all levels
Host workshops and tournaments throughout the year with transportation, food, and all other costs covered by BAUDL
Support students who wish to compete in the national debate circuit by providing coaching and covering all transportation costs including summer debate camp tuition.
Student impact
Debate increases student academic performance, enriches and expands their college and career opportunities, and provides the intellectual and networking tools for youth to thrive as active, responsible leaders in their communities. BAUDL students have higher GPA's, higher graduation rates, and higher rates of college attendance.
Debate is a critical tool for youth development by enhancing the critical thinking, decision making, research, and persuasion abilities of participants.
Involvement in BAUDL offers a lifelong connection as graduates of the program continue to participate as interns, staff, volunteers, and alumni support.
Promoting diversity within the debate community creates powerful benefits for all.The national debate community as it is currently composed over represents populations with the most wealth and power which in turn creates over representation problems in the careers that debate serves as a pipeline to like the law.
